The architecture tender aimed at the accomplishment of all necessary operations (refurnishing, modernization, construction of new buildings) which were indispensable for the complex of buildings in the PAOK stadium to be in accordance both with the requirements of the 2004 Olympic Games and the FIFA standards. On the other side, the UEFA claims regarding the organization of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE were supposed to be met.
Considering the above-mentioned, the tender stipulates that the following changes were necessary:
interventions at the entire building, at the level of the 1, 2, 3 stands and at the area which includes the existing sun-blind
rehabilitation of the damaged areas of the stadium
construction of a new building, by the expanison towards the unbuilt area, in order to improve, complete and raise the level of the functions.
The following have been suggested:
To remove the existing parts and to build a new sun-blind with an area of 4,000 sqm, set on a metallic structure. The long side of the sun-blind would also be the façade of the building constructed in the area of the 1st and 2nd stands. The rest of the sun-blind unfolds perimetrally as to the field and independent from it.
The building, providing enough room to meet the new needs of the club, has been designed so as to correspond to the expectations of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. It includes the annex of the footings for the Press and spreads over five overground floors and one basement level.
PAOK / TOUMBA
The new building is set on an reinforced concrete supporting structure and is located at a quite visible distance from the existing building, communicating with it in certain areas, where this was necessary in order to make the traffic more fluent. The building has two open service stairs at its both ends, to meet the safety needs and comply with the necessity of a control over the circulation between the field and the building. The circulation of the staff is ensured by independent, controlled stairs and elevators, which separate the various functional areas (the V.I.P. areas, those for the Press etc.).
The architecture proposal aimed both at the improvement of the internal functions of the ARIS stadium and at the modernization of the building so as to raise to the current requirements of the sports it hosts.
Most of all, the complex must meet the requirements of the 2004 Olympics and the standards of FIFA and, on the other side, to respond as much as possible to the demands of UEFA in what the organization of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE is concerned.
All these issues are solved by:
the redistribution of the interior space and the setting of other new rooms
interventions at the entire complex, but especially where some serious damages had occurred
the demolition of the existing sun-blind and of the superior side of the stands corresponding to the 4th, 5th and 6th stands and the construction of the building ensuring room for the V.I.P., the Press and the sportsmen
Setting of new stairs and of a new sun-blind
[o to raise the aesthetic value of the stadium's façades.]
The new building, also having a new sun-blind, provides room to meet the new needs of the club: the annexes of the stands for the journalists, the V.I.P. areas and the new stands for the public providing 2,040 seats. The building has all necessary technical equipments (sanitary, heating, ventilation) and follows all the safety requirements, the communication and transportation needs of the staff and the needs of the staff handling the equipment by the means of stairs and elevators. The circulations and passings of the various groups of users will easily be accomplished, while ensuring the independence and the controlled circulation of each category of users, without crossings. The building has a carrying reinforced concrete structure and its location is tangent to the existing field, communicating with it in several areas, where necessary for the circulation of the staff. The building spreads over four overground floors and one basement level.
The new sun-blind, unfolding over an area of 4,000 sqm, is set on a structure made up of metallic profiles, coated with CONTI heat insulating panels and suspended ceilings of aluminium plates, built in accordance with the structure proposal. The exterior metallic structure, on the façade facing the Alkminis St., will be covered in a metallic grid which can also be used as a support for big advertising panels.
ARIS / HARILAOU
The object of this architecture tender is refurnishing the stadium, which would mean repairs, reinforcements and the setting of a new structure for the buildings and the sports areas. All the above-mentioned, as well as any other necessary interventions will be taken into account so that the field should meet the utilisation needs of a training ground for football teams for the qualification tours at the Olympic Games in 2004. All changes will be in accordance with the terms of the Olympics and of the FIFA and will comply with as many requirements of the club as possible.
APOLLON / KALAMARIA
The sports areas of M.G.S APOLLONAS KALAMARIAS comprise a "built square" at the crossing of the Hilis St. and Kalamaria St. Most of the area is occupied by the football field (with the surrounding athletic tracks) and by the volume of the footing on the North-Western side. After the elaboration of the preliminary project several interventions in the football field area proved to be necessary for the utilisation of the building as a training complex, but also in order to meet the requirements of the club. These changes proved to be compulsory especially at the footing frame, in the North-Western side hosting all the functions of the club. The suggested interventions refer both to the reinforcement of the existing parts and to the setting of new areas, so that they should follow not only the demands imposed by the use of the stadium as a training complex, but also to comply with the needs of the club in relation to the present.
For this purpose, the following changes have been reccomended for each floor:
At the groundfloor, partial demolition of the internal compartments, rearrangement, refurnishing of the existing areas and extension and construction of new areas from the surrounding limit of the field
At the upper floors, restoration of the existing office areas and setting of new spaces in the unbuilt area
Refurnishing implies removing the floors, the masonry, the suspended ceilings, the carpentry and the existing installations and setting of other new ones to correspond to the hygiene and safety requirements.
